This Fall we will be offering our New PowerPoint Basics course. This is the perfect class for anyone who knows nothing about PowerPoint, or has used PowerPoint for building really simple presentations, but needs to learn how to do more. We will take you from creating a title slide to building a full fledged presentation from scratch in four short classroom sessions.
Students will learn about good slide design, working with backgrounds and pre-designed templates, adding motion, sound and music to your presentation and then 'packaging' your presentation for others to view on their computer even if they do not have PowerPoint.
As a final lesson students will bring 15-20 personal photos to class and learn how to create a PowerPoint Photo Album including adding music for that special finishing touch.
There will be two available class dates: Mondays at 10:30 and Thursdays at 1:00, and will run four weeks beginning the week of September 29th. Pre-requisite for this course includes good computer skills and/or the completion of either Level Two, Photo Editing, Fun with Word, or approval from the instructor.

Registration for this and all our courses will be held on Tuesday, September 23rd beginning at 1:00 pm at the Hot Springs Senior Center.

More New Happenings for Fall...
The Internet
course has been completely redone. We have taken the Internet portion of our standard manual and expanded it to eight full lessons. We placed a lot of emphasis on downloading from the internet as well as looking at many of the features of IE 7.0 including tab browsing and IE 7's new security features.

Outlook Express
will also get a new look and include an overview of Vista's Window Mail. This updated course will be available for our winter session beginning in January.

MS Word has been updated from Word 2002 to Word 2003 and includes new and additional figures to improve the 'self-help' quality of this manual. The lesson on mail merge now includes a small database file of names and addresses that students can add to and then produce a form letter (like a holiday greeting letter) as well as mailing labels.

Quicken has been updated and, added new for this course will be a prepared account file that students will continue to add to and update throughout the course. More time spent learning the Quicken program than data entry.

Other courses that have been updated including Fun with Word; UYC Level One; UYC Level Two.

In the works: Family Tree Maker using the recently released FTM 2008 software, Excel, Photo Editing...all will be  updated for our winter session.

Vista??? No definite schedule as yet but we have upgraded our computers making them ready for Vista. Hopefully we will have more news about Vista course offerings later this fall. We'll let you know, right here at e-News.com.

Final thought...Boy, It's hard to believe that the summer is already over. We here at the Hot Springs Learning Center hope that you all had an enjoyable and healthy summer.

Several of our instructors volunteered over the summer to update our manuals. They included new and revised text, added new figures, and updated the student files. We also made the change over from Word 2002 and floppies to Word 2003, CD's and Flash drives. In addition we completed a new course, PowerPoint Basics. We expect this to be a popular choice come registration and if all goes well we will offer an Advanced PowerPoint course for our winter session.

On Saturday, September 13th, we will present a seminar on the Basics of the Internet. Much of what will be discussed you can apply to either IE6 or IE7. A seminar manual of the power point presentation plus an additional hand out about the features of IE7 will be available to all ticket holders. Tickets can only be purchased at the library and seats are limited. Those of you who attended our Computer Maintenance seminar may remember that tickets sold out several days prior to the seminar date. So get your tickets early.

See you then, ok?

Until next time...
